The Employment Relations Authority has upheld a personal
grievance claim and penalised an employer who failed to immediately provide
copies of an employee’s wage and time records.
The employee was working out their notice period and felt
they had been short paid so requested copies of the records. The employer failed to provide these details.
The penalty for the three offences was up to $60,000 but
this was reduced to $2,000 due to the circumstances of the company and how the
breaches had occurred. Just because the
employment was about to end was no excuse for not complying with the law.
